Today I’m going to take you through 4 things that you must do
before you start your online personal training business.

This was inspired by our podcast with James Breese of Strength Matters where he breaks down in much more detail the step-by-step process to getting started as an online personal trainer.

You can listen to EP 193 here:
“How to Start an Online Personal Training Business” https://youtu.be/9K907LEZxM0

#1 Do your research on which online training system you are going to use.

#2 Write down your system of training step by step

#3 Create and write down your on boarding process

#1 Do your research on which online training system you are going to use.

In episode 193 James gave us four different examples of online systems that you can look at for your online personal training business. I recommend that you take the time to research each of those ones that he recommends. Plus have a look at the other options that are available online. Some online systems are very template based so it’s a cookie cutter approach and it’s very easy for you to get up and
running.

Others give you the opportunity to really customize the system a lot more, so maybe if you’ve got a really strong developed personal training system then those may be better suited for you. The main thing is that you actually take the time do a couple
free trials and work with your existing clients to test out a few systems. Because if you want to load all of your information onto a user system you have got to know that that is the right system for you.

#2 Write down your system of training step by step

When you are training with a client one on one whether you are in the gym or you’re outdoors, wherever you might be, you have the opportunity to easily adapt to any situation that might come your way. You can think on the spot, you can change
exercises on the fly. When you’re actually working with an online client you don’t have the opportunity to do that so it’s absolutely vital that you set yourself up and you set up all of your training systems in advance of sending out the programs to your clients (uploading those programs into the system).

So things like Mini-workouts, mini assessments, maybe flexibility, mobility tests, etc. There are all the type of things that you actually want to set up well in advance and know exactly what they look like so that your client can actually work their way through each of those systems when they’re working with you online.

#3 Create and write down your on boarding process

I’m going to assume that as a personal trainer you already have an on boarding process for your current clients. What is it that you do with them in the first 10 days, what did you in the first 30 days, what do you do in the first 60 days, what does their life cycle journey look like when they train with you. Just like you do
that for your normal personal training clients or in-person one-on-one clients, you need to do exactly the same thing when you’re setting up for your online training
clients.
